CLASH, the Images SAID – radionica o foto-knjigama

Danas je prvi dan radionice of foto-knjigama, pod nazivom “CLASH, the Images SAID” workshop on Photobooks, 30. marta 2018. godine u 16h, u EU info centru, Kralja Milana 7

MENTORKA: Valentina Abenavoli

RADIONICA:

CLASH, THE IMAGES SAID je trodnevna diskusija o vizualnoj priči u foto-knjigama.

CLASH, the Images SAID – Workshop on Photobooks

Today is the first day of the “CLASH, the Images SAID” workshop on Photobooks, 30th March 2018 at 16h, in EU info centre, Kralja Milana 7

TUTOR: Valentina Abenavoli

Valentina Abenavoli is an Italian editor and designer, currently based in Istanbul.
After a degree in photography, a master in book publishing and several odd jobs, in 2012 she founded Akina, together with Alex Bocchetto. Their independent publishing house collaborates with emerging and established photographers, editing and producing challenging photobooks in limited editions, often handmade. In 2016 she published her first photobook as author titled “Anaesthesia”, followed by “The Harvest”, the second chapter of an unfinished trilogy around the subjects of empathy and evil. She participated in several group and solo exhibitions. On a side, she works freelance as editor and book designer.

WORKSHOP:

CLASH, THE IMAGES SAID is a 3 days long discussion on visual narrative in photobooks. The practise of reading a photobook, which is usually an intimate and meditative moment, assumes a different perspective, if it happens within a group of people. In this workshop we will analyse all together the reasons why photobooks are chosen as preferred medium by more and more photographers nowadays, as well as we will discover ambiguities and clashes that happen when several images are put in a sequence.

From the everlasting classics to more experimental ones, photobooks have the perk of opening a very wide space for imagination and narrative.
The workshop will dissect some case studies, in order to understand the structure of a visual work. Trials and exercises on editing and sequencing, performed collectively, will be the main focus of the workshop, which will give some inputs for the attendees to re-imagine their own projects in a book form.

Novi talenti – Instagram – BPM 2018 otvaranje

Večeras, 29. marta 2018. godine u 19h, u UK Parobrod 2 izložbe – Novi Talenti 2018 i Instagram 2018. Dodjite, imaćete priliku da vidite i uživate u ovim projektima.

I to odavno više nije novina.

New Talents – Instagram – BPM 2018 Opening

Tonight, 29th March 2018 at 19h, in UK Parobrod 2 exhibitions – New Talents 2018 and Instagram 2018. Come, you will have the opportunity to see and enjoy these projects.

For 18 years, we have been living in the 21st century. Many things have happened, many things have changed and photography, perhaps, more than any other media, has changed considerably. It has certainly lost its aura of particularity by the mere fact that it is omnipresent. It became important as a word as well, though not as precise as the word itself. Hence we frequently view it in alliance with a text that will explain it, expand or deepen its meaning. In the contemporary practice of visual arts education, text and theory are an inseparable part of practical work. That was also proved by the work of participants in the third “New Talents” competition, most of whom are students of photography. Although each of the photo series represents a narrative, their full meaning and their direction become discernible only by the combination of the image and text. And that is no longer news. However, the way the stories are created still is. They vary from a directed situation, changing of the very form of photography into a 3D object, to fiction, combination of archival material and personal, and ultimately to “classic” reporting. The desire to tell stories has not diminshed compared to 20, 50 or 100 years ago. Inexhaustable human curiosity and the need for fiction compel us to pursue stories, to record them and share them. Yet, their linear narrative was replaced by the intuitive flow in which places, time, actors and subjective impression are all intermingled with the factual one. A dominant atmosphere is not so much due to the artistic component, as it is due to the dramatic effect that is helping us to knit a story into a ball of visual information. Perhaps the medium of photography has become more easy and accessible than ever before, yet the communication between spectators and photography was, and has remained, a field of knowledge in which a story-maker and its spectator participate equally, weaving into it their own experience, sensibility, culture, religious and political attitudes, or simply their own age.
